Been a bit quiet posting over the last few days as I’ve been fighting with configuring remote email access for my staff using Outlook RPC over HTTPS. I’d tried just about every configuration under the sun and for the life of me, I couldn’t get the bloomin’ thing to work. It was only after 48 hours fighting that it finally dawned on me that the firewall’s remote config port was the same as the HTTPS port that the exchange server was using! Doh! I still have to apply Exchange SP2 to finalise the set up, but that can’t be done ’til out of hours – so there may be no shooting tonight either unless it goes like clockwork.
I have however managed to process the images I shot over the weekend in Manchester. The weather was pretty miserable and the light was pretty dull (really? that’s not like Manchester I hear you say!) with the occasional appearance from the sun, but I felt that I needed to take my new D300 for a blast. The 18-200 VR is just a superb piece of glass, I’m just gutted I never got one earlier. Being able to slow down to 1/15 sec and still hand hold is marvelous. I’m still learning my way around the D300 too, but from first impressions I like it a lot!!
Over at Nikon they’ve created a DigiTutor for those of us who can’t RTFM. Check it out here. Some of its a bit like “duh, really???” , but there are some areas I’ve found really useful like the new auto focus system and the “Active D-Lighting”. Hopefully some more results to post soon (Exchange server permitting!!)
