Unfortunately I couldn’t make Scott Kelby’s photowalk on Saturday for family reasons and I was scheduled to go on an outdoor lighting workshop on Sunday which was cancelled due to bad weather. So I ventured into Manchester in the pouring rain on Sunday afternoon to make up for it. I converted them all to B&W, tweaked the contrast slightly and added a little vignetting on a couple all in Lightroom. I’ve cropped them into a square format for 2 reasons – I’m missing using my Hasselblad (I’m trying to resign myself to parting with it, though I’m a huge fan of the square feel), and I just feel that these images sit better in an orthogonal format. Apart from getting thoroughly soaked, and very damp toes I reckon I managed to get some really good shots. The rain added a whole new dimension to the streets and the people – the damp streets glisten and are much darker than the normally grey pavement and the ubiquitous dark raincoats and umbrellas combine to add an altogether different feel.
