Shooting a VW Scirocco with small flash
Volkswagen Scirocco by Neil Alexander Over the last couple of years I’ve made several photographs of this Scirocco, but this time I wanted to try something different and really push my little flashes. I wanted to shoot into the setting sun and light as much of the car as I could with 2 SB900s (on [...]
How I moved my WordPress blog.
Hopefully you won’t have noticed, other than the post the other Friday, but I recently moved hosts with this blog, and before you go any further – this is a nerdy post so if you popped by looking for some new inspiring imagery and corresponding elegantly written “how to” today, then move down the [...]
Flash photoblog
For some time now, I’ve been looking for a photoblog application that I can host myself, and more importantly will give me some protection for my images. Being a little web savvy I know just how easy it is to “steal” pictures from any html driven web site. So to this end i’ve been looking [...]

Another week draws to a close…
I’ve added the shots from the wedding that I did a couple of weeks back to my gallery – check them out here. Brian Auer over at Epic Edits is running a pretty cool competition – “The $50 film camera”. Yep you guessed it – it’s a film themed and you gotta shoot it with [...]
Short and sweet
Brief post today. Computer equipment is all overheating (its topping 100F in office again), so I’m struggling to process shots from the wedding. It was a great success and I’m pleased with my results. Off to London for 36 hours shooting tomorrow, so I ain’t gonna get the rest processed until later in the week. [...]
Problems Problems…
It’s gonna be one of dem days! Late start this morning as I had to drop my car off at Audi for them to repair the Gearbox ECU. Fortunately, even though the car is 12 months outside its warranty Audi are going to throw the part in for free, which helps as its about £1500!! [...]
Ikea are barking mad!
Check this out – http://kominigarderoben.se/ In Swedish but you’ll get the gist! Oh and here’s another one – www.alexprager.com – some truly fantastic photography.
DJ Mixes
Some of you readers out there may be aware that back in the day or BC (before children), I used to spin the ol’ 1′s and 2′s for a living (DJing to the laymen out there). I’ve been having a clear out of some spare hard disks to make room for more RAW files and [...]
Ladybird books, remember them?
For those of you over a certain age, you may remember those good old Ladybird books that taught you to read. Amazingly, they’re still going (my 3 year old son is a big fan). There’s a new web site popped up at ladybirdprints.com where you can get prints or canvases from over 4000 Ladybird illustrations! [...]
Del.icio.us vs Google Bookmarks
I’ve finally been persuaded to abandon Google Bookmarks and switch over to using Del.icio.us. The primary reason being that I often find myself using different PCs and access to Del.icio.us just seems to me to be easier and simpler than using Google. I have also found the UI much simpler and quicker to use. I [...]
Monday Monday….
All quiet today on the photography front. I spent some time over the weekend experimenting with fill flash in the sunshine which really opened my eyes. Though I’m afraid I’ve no images to post. I spent Saturday afternoon shooting my kids at the park, but I made a conscious decision some time ago not to [...]
M6 Service Stations continued…
Aaagh! Middle lane drivers! Why do these cretins insist on sitting one behind another in the middle lane with no traffic whatsoever in the inside lane? Is it because they’re such nervous drivers that they can’t face having to pull out of the inside lane to overtake the odd truck? In which case they shouldn’t [...]
No blog Wednesday
No blog entry today I’m afraid. I’m far too giddy about the football tonight and I’m off shortly to hit the boozer with several hundred other United supporters. C’mon the Reds!
David nails Goliath!
Some time ago a local property developer submitted plans to demolish our local village centre, which has served the local community well for over 30 years with a behemoth of a development towering above everything in site. It was grossly oversized and all in the name of greed. We would have had to endure 2 [...]
Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense
(I received this by email today. Not sure where it originated, but amusing nonetheless. ) ‘Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red [...]
Ants in the kitchen (ode to UB40???)
Totally off topic, but worth a rant nonetheless. We’ve been having major problems with ants in our kitchen the last couple of months. The little pesky black garden ants. They don’t bite or make any mess, but thoroughly unpleasant when you arrive bleary eyed in the kitchen first thing in the morning and they’re crawling [...]
